A sacrifice bunt occurs when a player is successful in an attempt to advance a runner (or multiple runners) at least one base with a bunt. In this vein, the batter is sacrificing themselves (giving up an out) to move another runner closer to scoring. When a batter bunts with a runner on third base, it is called a squeeze play and, if successful, is still recorded as a sacrifice. Why is this so important? Since a player is willing to give him or herself up for the greater goal of the team. It truly is a beautiful thing.
Over the past two weeks we have experienced 3 deaths that touch us a family. It has made me reflect on what is important and what I sacrificed over the past 1-2 years to chase a dream that I thought is owed to others who love me no matter what my professional job is or is not. My personal goals at times have been at the forefront at the expense of losing time with you and your mom. That is why with hard work, persistence, and prayer we are positioned as a family for dad to make a sacrifice that is for the greater good of our team soon. John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. If I can exemplify anything it should be my walk with the Lord, sacrifices for the three of you. Not chasing the Mount Rushmore of athletics while being away from you for days at a time or not being able to see my mother and your Gram Gram in over a year because of athletics. Forgive me for putting team, players, and others before the three of you. That is going to change. I have already proved you can leave a small town in Missouri with 24 dollars in a pocket and become semi-retired at the age of 37. Why not enjoy the most important part of life and that is the blessing of being a husband and father. I love being married to your mother and I love being a twin father. I love experiencing the 5 weekly finds you two teach me each week. Thank you and thank you for reminding me we get one at bat in life and we should live it around like-minded people who deeply care for others and are willing to sacrifice for big picture.
1. Started a petition this week to change the expression “like a bull in a china shop” to “like twins in the glassware section of the Hallmark store!!”
2. 535 a.m. Thursday morning:
Me: Umm. Sorry boys, we are out of oatmeal!!
Twins: *sigh* I guess give me a cookie then!!
3. Also, 5 minutes later on Thursday:
Twin brothers crying hot tears of frustration into waffles: "I. DON'T. WANT. MORNING. AGAIN. Turn it off!!"
4. At dinner Wednesday the night prior (my only night at home this week):
One twin asked the other if he was eating spaghetti. The other twin replied very disappointed, "it's rigatoni... learn your pasta." And I didn’t know it was this serious!!
5. On the way to PreK the twins wanted to know why I wouldn’t peel and slice their apples and according to them “because I’m driving” is not a valid excuse!!
We love you honey.
Always
