5 Friday Finds!!!!! Hip-Hop!!

Hip-Hop Day is celebrated every August 11 in the United States. Hip-hop has progressed from a street corner to one of the most important musical genres and cultural impacts in the world. Hip-hop, like any other style of music, has its roots in other forms, and its evolution was shaped by many different artists — but there’s a case to be made that it came to life precisely on August 11, 1973, on a birthday celebration in New York City’s west Bronx by D.J. Kool Herc, hip-hop’s founding father. Clive Campbell, aka D.J. Kool Herc organized a back-to-school jam in the Bronx with his sister Cindy. Little did they know that this event would lay the groundwork for a global celebration that pays tribute to the pioneers, visionaries and every rhythm, lyric and dance move that shaped hip-hop into what it is today. Hip hop, at its core, serves as a powerful tool for storytelling, shedding light on the realities and aspirations of marginalized communities. It fearlessly addresses societal issues and gives a voice to those who are often unheard while it transcends borders and connects cultures. In 2018, Kendrick Lamar's “DAMN” isn't just the first hip-hop album to win the Pulitzer — it is the first recording in any genre that isn't classical or jazz to earn the prestigious award in its 75-year history. That is beyond remarkable of how the genre has evolved. Just like how raising twins is ever evolving and always remarkable. Thank you for this week’s 5 Friday Finds…..

1. Summers as a kid seemed to last a lifetime, now it’s like 3 consecutive Saturday birthday parties, a picnic and back to school!!

2. This morning one twin just stacked a pancake on top of his waffle, truly he is our future!!

3. One twin asked me for a boomerang, so I handed him the Jello that has gone back and forth in his lunch during his first week back to school!!

4. I wonder if, when people envisioned a future filled with fantastic and limitless technology, any of them considered my twin 5-year-olds standing in front of the amazon echo asking it to repeatedly play fart noises?!

5. Remember now summer is over, it’s only a family vacation if you think “We’re never doing this again” at least twice!!
