As I read a local newspaper this week, it had me wondering where are all the good writers? It seems to be that newspaper just hire anyone. As I read the local sports article I am flabbergasted at the uninteresting plots in the story and grammatical errors. Could it be that I grew up reading one of the best columnist's to ever live? Well heck, that has me almost teary eyed. Thus, here is one of the men who gave you a middle name Ryker!
My grandpa Hank Billings. A true and tried gentleman, devoted father who adopted us, a hard worker who loved his job, a staunch Cardinals fan who passed that down to me, and most of all the best example of a Christian man I have ever seen. At times it is even hard to live up to how amazing of a person he is, but I could not be more grateful of the example and person he was to me in my life. He is missed, thought of, and certainly will be known throughout the years. The Lord blessed me with my grandparents and I could not be more "giddy" to share their memories, wisdom, and love you graciously bestowed on me. It tickles me that Ryker gets mint chocolate chip ice cream each time we go out for a delightful cool treat. He does not miss a beat in asking me, "Hey dad was this the favorite flavor of your grandpa?" Yes it sure was, we would go to the cabin on the river or go play his favorite par 3 golf course in Springfield and we would never miss an opportunity to grab an ice cream cone. His choice mint chocolate chip! Even if I insisted on telling him that strawberry cheesecake was the best or my cousin Anthony telling him getting cookie dough or cookies n cream. He never wavered from that flavor just like he never wavered in being an absolute amazing example.
Thank you grandpa. Thank you for Godly grandparents. You get the first shout out as you know when I write about grandma my keyboard will be drenched in tears. I was a grandma boy. Give her a kiss for me and tell her I miss everything about her from that famous pot roast to that smile! Thankful my kids have your humor and bring us 5 great finds each week.....
1. A twin wanted to be a doctor but now he wants to be an Australian breakdancer. Thanks, Olympics!!
2. No need to worry about me being kidnapped because my twins would just find me and ask for a snack!!
3. I tell the twins that if they ever get lost to just find an Amazon truck and follow it because there's a pretty good chance it's coming to our house.
4. Each year a decision must be made on a school portrait package that’s somewhere between “I care but I don’t need faces on a kitchen towel!!”
5. My twins are wonderful and will leave many lasting impressions. For example, they made breakfast and left eggs under the seat in the truck for an entire day and I happily smelt it all the way home in this southern heat!!
