5 Friday Finds!!!!! Head Awareness!!

National Concussion Awareness Day is recognized on the third Friday of each September yearly and will be recognized on September 20th, today. Concussions are most often correlated with sports accidents the most but are also brought on by other non-sporting activities like motor vehicle collisions, falls, military excursions, and bicycle or skateboarding accidents. Concussions have rapidly become a plague in the United States, with increased cases of mild traumatic brain injuries happening each year.

Traumatic brain injuries are classified as head injuries or injury to a part of the head resulting from damage to the brain by an external mechanical force, stroke or infection.

Regardless of its severity if left undiagnosed and untreated, concussions are easily overlooked and thus require an immediate and thorough evaluation by a qualified medical provider to rule out life-threatening head injuries or injuries to other parts of the body system. Symptoms of a concussion last up to two weeks and can result in changes in mood and displays of unusual emotions.

The objective of National Concussion Awareness Day is to create an opportunity for healthcare practitioners, caretakers, and sufferers alike to have an open discussion of this issue. The goal is also to generate an increased circulation of information on the case to further educate the general public. With that being said, your father has had five documented concussions and possibly a few undocumented. There exists an extensive amount of education and training on concussions verse when I grew up or even at the very beginning of my military career. Even as a coach and sport administer we are required to go through concussion awareness and response training annually. As we pivot to a more joyful topic, I am thankful the Lord sustained me through all of my concussions and hope those who have experienced TBI injuries are recovering for a normal and joyous life. Glad to have 5 joyous finds this week.....

1. So much of Dad twin-hood is pointing out to twins that the thing they’re asking for is in fact already in the pantry!!

2. May both boys find both shoes and glasses, the drop off lines be short, and your coffee stay hot – Morning prayer of Twin Dads!!

3. Double school emails brings parents a step closer to couples therapy!!

4. When I was a kid, I used to wonder why my grandpa would just sit in his favorite chair and not do anything but stare in space but now I totally get it!!

5. Remember to pay your hundreds of dollars for your Twins' sports team to play games just so you can also pay a gate fee to watch them play that sport!!
