I have been torn between the desire for what feels like two opposed worlds.
One leading a high octane, high impact life; building a domination in athletic administration, making an impact, contributing in meaningful ways and fundamentally rising to the pinnacle of my human potential. A life that allows me to help numerous student-athletes make a mark and reach unparalleled heights.
That world is characterized by fast-paced action, high stakes, high pressure, continuous growth, and momentum. Extreme travel and devotion to other young adolescents. It is a life of chasing logarithmic returns, exponential growth and competitive advantage. It is a life of restlessness fueled by an insatiable ambition. It is a fire that burns deep within.
On the other hand, I admire the simple life, staying in one place for a long tenure, having the summers, connecting deeply with nature, escaping urban stigmatisms and slowing down the pace of life, being home each night— building life one minute at a time. It is a life of linear returns, organic growth and cooperative advantage. It equates to life of modest desires and contentment.
Are these able to work in agreement? If the perfect blend of both is achievable, then these two worlds are simply a duality, or exist in polarity to one another, on a scale of experience. However, I question whether that’s reality. In fact, we must decide and move forward. Like a fork in the road, most things in life are in fact a dichotomy, where a blend of the extremities co-exist only in the mind. Luckily, each week we are blessed with 5 great finds that keep the reality of parenting so much fun…..
1. My kids willingly and enthusiastically say good bye and I love you to Alexa. All I get is a wave!!
2. Ryker spells his name R.Y. Cake. E. R in hopes of convincing me he is funny, smart, and will indeed get cake for knowing how to spell his name!!
3. This morning my truck was making annoying squeaky noises, it stopped once I dropped off the twins!!
4. If a twin dad is driving with his family and sees a cow, a horse, and a hot air balloon at the same time…Which one does he point out first??
5. Yesterday the twins poured a bottle of lavender essential oil on the floor and I’m calling bull$%^& on the whole calming effect claim.
