What stage are we in? The one where Twins now think bring a year older makes them the boss. They often try to leverage being twins to their advantage. Luckily, I’m tactically schooled in the nuisances of being the alpha male and chief of shenanigans. Thus, it’s become pretty clear that Mom and Dad rule in the roost. I firmly believe parents need to set limits on their kids and maintain the standards using consequences and accountability.
While the limit-setter role is essential, keep in mind that it should not be the only one you use. The other critical roles I’ve identified are the teacher role, where you help your child learn how to behave more appropriately, and the coach role, where you challenge your child to behave better—much like the coach of a sports team would do. All three roles—limit-setter, teacher, and coach—are needed for you to be effective. Starting early by having standards, expectations, and rules will only help as they grow and have more autonomy. If you don’t do it early it only becomes harder working backwards to be the alpha male. Thankfully, through it all we continue to be blessed with fun 5 Friday Finds.
