Did we just pass go and collect an 8th week of quarantine? Yes, yes, we did. Remember to find time to decompress and keep your sanity. Hope that a few of these bring a smile to you while also taking the time to read and learn a few facts this week. Go love on someone, make the world a brighter place.
1. This week I had to forgive my kids a bunch. Especially, for drinking my drink! Who touches dads drink? Seriously, it could cause harm to toddlers. STOP thinking it was alcohol, GEES! Do not ever touch my Chick-Fil-A Lemonade. Serious business. Get your own. The twins only have minor carpet burns. Stop rolling your eyes!
2. As most know we took a much-needed trip to the beach and family joined us as well. It was fun and helped us as parents tremendously. Meanwhile a few times the boys wanted to throw a fit. Listen to how it went:
Sons: (Wanting anything they are not allowed to have) “scream, cry, yell”
Me: NO. We do not act this way, use words.
Mother-N-Law: Oh, stop give it to them. You seem to say no a lot. Maybe you could find a different way to say it.
Me: $%^! NO!
3. Every game my kids play must have these rules:
- Make as much noise as humanly possible.
- Ends with 1 one vehemently shouting share as the other runs away chuckling and someone cries at the end.
4. What is not funny: “Young African-American men in Philadelphia and Jefferson Parish, Louisiana face a higher chance of death by homicide than do military personnel in Iraq. In these areas, the death rate for African-American men ages 20-24 is about 5 per 1,000. The death rate of military personnel in Iraq is about 4 per 1 million, 20% lower”
5. Considering that I am working with the Athens Clarke County Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office, what happened in Brunswick, GA is despicable. It does not just hurt one family or one community. It hurts our society and chances at evolving together. Add in that it keeps me up at night that at any time I could receive a phone call about this happening to one of my players. We must do better. Hopefully from the projects that our office is working on, we can bring systemic changes. I urge you to stop living in your bubble, all races are included. And seek out diversity, learn and question one another. Open your hearts, open your mind. Add love, add laughter, add joy. Stop taking away and stop saying it doesn’t impact me or my life. It 100% impacts us all. Do your part as a citizen, a parent, a person breathing and see people for a beating heart not color or religion or nationality.
